BACA has steadily grown over the years with what began as David Baca working alone in a renovated construction job trailer, grew into a small architectural firm with just under ten team members in the heart of Downtown Sherman, Texas. Beginning in 2006, David Baca made the deliberate decision to locate outside of a metropolitan market and to serve the Texoma area with quality architecture. As our practice has grown, so has our reach beyond the Texoma region. BACA is a young firm but our seasoned professionals each average over 20 years of architectural and professional experience bringing wisdom and maturity to our projects.
Our studio is located on the fifth floor of the former Vaughn's Department Store, a century-old edifice anchoring the northwest corner of the courthouse square in Sherman. Perched high above the square, our 270-degree views encompass the Austin College campus, grand weathered grain elevators, and the historical masonry buildings lining the downtown streets. Inside, our modest space is open and has access to the outside views, and to one another encouraging collaboration and communication. The senior team members share the same space as interns which promotes teamwork and the maximum potential growth of each team member.
We believe our clients know best when it comes to their needs and affordability. We take budgets and functional requirements seriously as we strive to create buildings, places, or spaces that are elevating beyond mere function. Because we treat each client's project finances as if they were our own, we painstakingly consider each design decision to understand how it may affect costs; by working alongside contractors and trades we learn from each other to provide the best possible solution.
We are committed to using our skills, talents, and financial ability to work alongside organizations that positively impact the lives of others. We contribute differently with each charitable organization we work with depending on the level of assistance needed whether it be by providing financial assistance or architectural services through reduced or waived design fees. We have also created a volunteer work program to encourage our team to physically give on a personal level to their program of choice, by covering up to 40 hours of paid time off annually to participate in local charities, which may be redeemed by the day or by the hour.
